Prof. Roger Kempers, P.Eng

Founder and Director

Prof. Roger Kempers is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at York University, Toronto, Canada, and is the founding director of the Thermofluids Research Lab (TF-LAB) at York University. His research is geared towards the advancement of heat transport, exchange, and conversion technologies to address industrial thermal energy challenges. He brings extensive experience from both industry and academia in experimental single- and two-phase heat transfer, boiling and condensation phenomena, two-phase cooling system development, thermal interface materials (TIMs), low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants, and simulation-driven design.

Prof. Kempers earned Mechanical Engineering BEng & Society and MASc degrees from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada (2002 and 2004), and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (2010). Prior to joining York University in 2016, he was a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Nokia (formerly Alcatel-Lucent) where he led the R&D of advanced thermal management technologies for wireless telecommunications hardware. Previously, Prof. Kempers worked as a Research Engineer at Lucent Technologies, Bell Laboratories Ireland, where his activities ranged from fundamental heat transfer research to thermal technology development and product integration.
